英連邦王国

英連邦王国（えいれんぽうおうこく、英：Commonwealth realm）は、イギリス連邦の加盟国であって、グレートブリテンおよび北アイルランド連合王国（英国、イギリス）の王座にある者を自国の国王として戴く主権国家を指す。2015年現在、計16ケ国ある。

一般的に定着した日本語訳が存在しないため、イギリス連邦王国ないしコモンウェルス・レルムとも呼ばれる。

概要

英連邦王国はいずれもイギリス連邦に属する。英国以外の英連邦王国は、かつて英国の植民地支配下に置かれた地域だったが、今日では英国に従属しない独立国である。19世紀までは自治領（dominion）と呼ばれていたが、1926年の帝国会議において主権的地位が英国から承認され、1931年のウェストミンスター憲章採択とイギリス連邦成立によって実質的に独立した。この時点ではイギリス国王への忠誠が自治領の条件として残ったが、1949年のロンドン宣言によってそれも不要となった。その頃から自治領（dominion）の呼称も用いられなくなり、新たに英連邦王国（Commonwealth realm）と呼ばれるようになった。この出来事はイギリス帝国の完全な解体を意味し、かつての自治領は名実ともに独立国として規定されるようになった。

現在の君主は女王エリザベス2世であり、王位の法定推定相続人はウェールズ公チャールズ王子である。

各国間の関係は人的同君連合であり、各国の地位は平等である。いずれかの国が他の国を優越しているということはなく、王位も独立している。したがって、例えばバハマの国家元首としての女王エリザベス2世は、英国女王ではなくバハマ女王の名で君臨する。

英国以外の英連邦王国では、国王が任命する総督が国王の代理を務める。総督は各国内の序列の上では国王に次ぐ次席にある。いずれの国でも君臨すれども統治せずの原則が貫かれ、国王と総督の統治権は名目上のものであり、職務の多くが儀礼的または形式的な行為である。各国とも政治形態は、行政実務を首相が取り仕切る議院内閣制が採られている。共和制移行論が盛んな国（オーストラリア、ジャマイカなど）もある。
